The Center serves as a clearinghouse for information regarding professional development opportunities open to teachers at MBA. In addition to the links from this site, the Center compiles information on its bulletin board and literature racks in Carter Hall. Information about professional development opportunities is updated throughout the year, and teachers are encouraged to visit often.
Davis Foundation Teaching Grants
Montgomery Bell Academy is committed to faculty professional development that ensures strong content qualifications as well as strong skills in the art of teaching. Davis Teaching grants support teacher interaction and development. Drawing on the incredible experience of the teachers at MBA, this grant program facilitates meaningful interaction and planning among several teachers. The program was established in 2005.
The Center promotes participation in the Davis Foundation grant programs at MBA. The Davis Foundation provides grants in several categories for projects aimed at improving the instruction and learning experience of students at MBA. In addition, the Center stands eager to assist teachers in applying for a variety of other competitive grants to support classroom instruction.
The center sponsors several events throughout each year to support teaching excellence. In addition, the center maintains a regular blog on which MBA faculty and staff may reflect upon the craft of teaching and share innovative ideas with one another.
During the year, the Center sponsors six lunches in the Gibbs Room for the purpose of discussing issues related to teaching. Teachers are encouraged to pick up their lunch in the cafeteria as usual and proceed to the Gibbs Room for informal discussion. Topics for this year’s lunches will be announced at the beginning of the school year and will represent topics of interest to the faculty at large.
