MBA Sweeps Math League Competition

The 2017-2018 Interscholastic Math League season ended on Thursday with unprecedented results.  For the first time in IML history, one school swept the top spot in all 8 possible categories.

Algebra 1 finished first overall with a first place finish tonight lead by Reid Groomes and Alex Wang.  The MBA Algebra 1 squad beat the second place team by a total of 82 points.

The Big Red Geometry squad took down the competition with Bill Ouyang and Adam Wang tying for first place and Dhruv Chandra taking third.  MBA finished the season ahead by 27 points.

In Algebra 2, Patrick Pergande, Tuneer Ghosh and Dan McGuire led the way to victory and an overall championship by 30 points.

In PreCalculus, Baylor Sai took first place leading the team to a season championship by 70 points.

MBA's Calculus team stretched its overall lead to 78 for the season with a victory led by Julian Habermann and Jack Sullivan.

The final category, Statistics, was not as secure going into contest down by 6 points.  The Big Red ran to the roar with all six competitors sweeping the medal stand delivering a crushing performance and securing the season championship by 12 points.

After all the subject contests the two Quiz Bowl teams competed in their respective championship matches of the tournament.  In front of a packed house full of Big Red faithful, the Microbe Quiz Bowlers came from behind to beat BMS on the final question to secure the title.  The following high school match mirrored the drama with Ensworth taking an early lead over the Big Red.  Undeterred, the Red Mathletes fired back closing the gap.  With two questions remaining and MBA down 4-3, Baylor Sai hammered home both final answers to steal away the victory by a score of 5-4.

The remarkable night concluded with MBA Mathletes hoisting eight first place trophies!
