MBA Sophomore Service Leadership Internship

The Sophomore Service Leadership Program is a summer opportunity for rising juniors to work with non-profit organizations while earning a stipend and learning the businesses where they are employed.  This year, we have three confirmed opportunities, with a fourth possibility being negotiated.

For six weeks during the summer, the selected MBA students will serve as full time staff by working 8 hours a day with each organization.  The students will be given a job title, will have specific duties and will be expected to show up and work as a vital employee of the company.  COVID safeguards will be in effect, and students will be expected to adhere to all safety guidelines.

To apply for this opportunity, the student must
  1. be a sophomore in good standing;
  2. be passing all classes;
  3. have no discipline or honor violations;
  4. write a ½ page paper outlining why you want to participate, the non-profit organization which you would like to select (from the list below), and a statement as to how this opportunity will benefit the school and the student.  The deadline for submitting the paper is Thursday, February 11.  The application must be submitted electronically or in a hard copy form to Mr. Ronnie McMahan (office in the Lowry building).  The selection committee will consist of seniors on the service club, the 10th Grade Service Advisor, the 10th Grade Class Sponsor, the MBA service advisor and the Deans of Students.  The Committee will read the papers and information sheets to select the students for this opportunity;
  5. complete and turn in the Student Information Sheet found here as a cover sheet to the application;
  6. be available for an interview by a committee if necessary.

The leadership opportunity includes:
  1. a requirement for the student to work a total of 6 weeks with at least 4 consecutive weeks in a row
  2. a paid stipend of $2,250 dollars for the completed internship
  3. a $250 dollar donation will be provided to each individual non-profit for hiring the selected MBA student
  4. a follow up project that connects the MBA community to this project

The following non-profit organizations will provide the confirmed internships.  Because of COVID, the duties at each location will vary and cannot be specifically determined at this time.  However, MBA has worked with each of these community partners for years, and we know they will continue to offer valuable experiences to our students.  We encourage you to familiarize yourself with these organizations by visiting their web pages linked below.
