MBA Policy Team Wins New Trier Debate Tournament

The MBA debate team of Liam Jameson (’17) and Atticus Glen (’19) won the New Trier Season Opener in Chicago, IL. The debate team went undefeated through eleven debates this past weekend, culminating in a unanimous decision victory over Iowa City West in the final round. Jameson and Glen bested a competitive field of 117 teams representing every region of the United States. This extends Glen and Jameson’s overall season record to an impressive 26-4 versus the very best competition in the country. Prior to this tournament they were rated the #6 individual team in the country by the national coaches poll. This latest performance is sure to increase their rating.
Montgomery Bell’s other team attending the New Trier tournament was John Cooper (’17) and Ben Jablonski (’18) who finished in the semi-finals, losing a narrow 2-1 decision to the Iowa City West team. Once again, MBA was the only squad to have multiple teams participating in the late elimination rounds.
Individual speaker awards were selected out of the 234 individual debaters at the tournament and Jameson was rated 5th, Cooper 6th, Glen 7th and Jablonski was ranked 18th.
Both teams earned qualification bids to the Tournament of Champions in April, bringing the squad total up 6.
Next, the team heads to the St. Marks School of Texas in Dallas this weekend.
Not competing at New Trier this weekend was the team of Andrew Kaplan and Ben Rosenthal who are currently ranked #2 in the country. They’ll resume their season at St. Marks.
