A Legacy and Mission Rooted in Character
At Montgomery Bell Academy, education is more than academics—it’s a transformative journey of becoming. For nearly 160 years, we’ve helped boys grow into young men of wisdom and moral integrity who will make significant contributions in society. Guided by the foundations of a classical education and a future-forward vision, MBA prepares students for college, career, and life itself.
Founded in 1867, MBA is Tennessee’s oldest independent school for boys and the only all-boys independent school in Nashville. Today, our 45-acre campus is home to 850 students in grades 7–12.
Our mission is fueled by our commitment to guide boys in becoming gentlemen who act with integrity, scholars who think deeply, and athletes who strive for excellence with discipline and resilience. These pillars are more than words on a page—they are the heartbeat of everything we do.

By The Numbers
"The level of confidence that MBA has around how they do things, and do it so effectively for boys, is remarkable to me. It just works. And it's worked for a very long time."
