Junior School | Scholar | Montgomery Bell Academy

Boys begin their journey toward becoming thoughtful, confident young men in the Junior School at MBA. Designed for seventh- and eighth-grade students, our Junior School provides the foundation of an MBA Education. While academics are central, we place equal emphasis on a boy’s emotional, social, and moral development.

Students are guided by dedicated faculty who know them well, serving as both teachers and advisors. Daily guidance—whether in the classroom, through advisory, or during extra help sessions—ensures that boys are both challenged and cared for at one of the most important times in their lives.

The curriculum emphasizes essential skills in writing, problem-solving, scientific thinking, and creative expression, while electives and extracurricular opportunities—from music and theater to Science Olympiad, robotics, and MathCounts—allow boys to explore their interests and discover new talents.

A unique part of the seventh-grade experience is the new Gentleman, Scholar, Athlete class. Designed to introduce boys to MBA’s values and student life, the course helps them establish a strong foundation in their first year. Coaches and teachers guide students in building character and developing the skills and habits that prepare them for success throughout their MBA journey and beyond.

With students arriving from nearly 40 different elementary schools, our goal is to build strong study habits, ignite curiosity, and create a close-knit community.

Our 8th graders leave the Junior School prepared not only for the academic rigor of high school but also with the friendships and foundations that will guide them for years to come.
