Montgomery Bell Academy senior Nikhil Misra has been named a Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia, one of the most prestigious undergraduate merit scholarships in the country. Nikhil becomes the third MBA student in recent years to earn this distinction, following Tom Peters ’17 and Ryan Hill ’11.
The Jefferson Scholarship is awarded through the Jefferson Scholars Foundation to outstanding high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. Candidates are nominated by their schools and selected through a rigorous multi-stage process that includes regional interviews and national selection events.
Nikhil said he was deeply honored by the recognition and quick to credit the people and community that supported him along the way.
“I'm still in shock, honestly. This honor means so much to me, and it's just as much a reflection of MBA as it is of me,” Nikhil said. “I could not have accomplished this without the incredible teachers who have pushed me to be my best and the unwavering support from the MBA community, both academically and emotionally. I'm eternally grateful that I had the right people in my corner and that I was able to make those people proud.”

Scholars receive a four-year scholarship to the University of Virginia that covers the full cost of attendance, including tuition, room, and board, as well as additional funding for enrichment opportunities such as study abroad, independent research, and career networking experiences. Each year, approximately 30–40 students nationwide are selected for the program.
The Jefferson Scholars program is widely recognized for cultivating future leaders across many fields. Since its founding, the program has supported students who have gone on to become Rhodes Scholars, Marshall Scholars, and influential leaders in public service, business, and academia.
Nikhil’s selection places him among an elite group of student leaders from across the country and continues a proud tradition for MBA. We congratulate him on this remarkable accomplishment.
