For the second consecutive season - and third time in the last four - MBA Shotgun is your state champion!
The Big Red brought home the back-to-back title on Saturday thanks to outstanding shooting from seniors J.D. Abernathy, Jackson Crawford, and Loring Helfrich. The trio combined for a team score of 291, the second-highest state championship score in team history and enough for a convincing margin over second place University School of Jackson.
Abernathy led all shooters in Saturday’s 125 shot competition with a score of 104 while Crawford added 101 and Helfrich recorded an 86.
Individual competition followed on Sunday in Tennessee’s qualifying rounds for Junior Olympics with J.D. and Jackson each placing top five in the state - and as the first and second best shooters in their age classification. Overall, all 14 of MBA’s shooters qualified to compete in the Junior Olympic National Championship in Hillsdale, Michigan later this year. The team will continue to compete locally in the lead-up to the national event with matches against Goodpasture (April 15 / April 30), CPA (May 7), and Lipscomb Academy (May 9).
