Montgomery Bell Academy is proud to announce the addition of Clete McLeod as the school’s new Director of Performance, Strength and Conditioning. With more than two decades of experience in athlete development and performance training, Coach McLeod brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to The Hill.
“Coach McLeod has a track record of building programs that develop athletes both physically and mentally,” said Mike Anderson, MBA Director of Athletics. “His experience at every level of collegiate athletics will be an incredible asset to our students and teams.”
Widely regarded as an expert in Olympic lifting, speed and agility training, and long-term athletic development, McLeod joins MBA from the University of South Dakota, where he served as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach since 2018. During his tenure, he helped lead the Coyotes football program to three FCS playoff appearances, including a semifinal run in 2024 following a Missouri Valley Football Conference title.
Coach McLeod’s coaching journey also includes previous roles at several prominent programs, including:
Nebraska Cornhuskers Football
Southern Illinois University Athletics
Oregon State Beavers Football
Southeast Missouri State University Athletics
Northern Illinois University Athletics
“I’m honored to join the Montgomery Bell Academy community,” said Coach McLeod. “MBA’s commitment to excellence—in academics, athletics, and character—aligns perfectly with my own philosophy. I’m excited to work with these young men and help them grow as athletes and as people.”
MBA Head of School William Daughtrey shared his vision for the position:
“Coach McLeod’s addition to the MBA staff reflects our commitment to preparing young men for peak mental and physical performance, both on and off the field. He comes to us with an abundance of energy, knowledge, and experience helping students and coaches meet their personal and team objectives. Along the way, he’ll develop sport-specific programming while also enhancing our tradition of students competing in multiple sports. Whether he’s teaching foundational techniques to our Junior School students, guiding athletes in their transition between seasons of competition, partnering with our health services and athletic training staff to teach nutrition and healthy habits, or simply celebrating a boy’s progress, Coach McLeod will help students develop the confidence, abilities, discipline and drive to reach their full potential.”
Coach McLeod will begin his work with students across all our athletic teams and levels in June.
