Microbe “C” Take the Day Off en route to a 1-1 tie
After several days of beauty rest and fierce training on how to become ambi-turners, the mighty Microbe “C” team made their home debut vs. Poplar Grove. Things started off on a sour note, when Coach Paolicchi made the unfortunate mistake of mispronouncing the school “Popular” Grove, which sent shockwaves through the “C” teamers. They suddenly became very self-conscious and thus spent the first thirty minutes in a catatonic state. Fortunately for them, the Poplar Grove team, upon seeing the “C” teamers in their paralysis, did not make any attempt to attack, for they thought that the “C” teamers looked very beautiful and very cold, and therefore were not allowed to touch anything. This resulted in dull and scoreless first half. During halftime, Coach Paolicchi did nothing to inspire the “C” teamers when he threatened that if they did not score in fifteen minutes, they could find a new best friend. Fortunately, Coach Dougherty came to the rescue. Knowing that Coach Paolicchi has used that same line since the fifth grade, Coach Dougherty informed the team that he would not sit around and allow the events that affected the first half unfold to determine the course of his life. He was going to take a stand. He was going to defend it. Right or wrong, he was going to defend it. This woke up the “C” team who, realizing that the first half was one of the worst performances of their career and they never doubted it for a second, decided to make the second half count. Walter Reisinger and Will Jackson anchored the defense and yelled “Hey batta batta batta SWING batta!” as they thwarted every Poplar Grove attack. James Buntin dominated the right flank, leading to a corner kick that Edward Settle sent into the box, bounced off the goalkeeper, and was put away flawlessly by Jackson Miller. However, ten minutes later, Poplar Grove was awarded a penalty. Before the shot, MBA goalkeeper Dillard Cross made sure to inform everyone that they had nothing to worry about, for he was a professional. This backfired when one Poplar Grove player yelled out “A professional what?”, which froze Dillard for he thought clearly it was pretty obvious. This led to a 1-1 tie. Despite a spirited joyride up to that point, the “C” teamers attempted to undo the goal by driving backwards, which was ultimately unsuccessful, and the game ended in a draw. Following the game, the “C” teamers sang Danke schoen und auf wiedersehen to their adoring fans before signing autographs. The “C” team looks to continue their epic undefeated season next week as they face Brentwood Academy on Thursday.
