The MBA Boys finish 4th in division 7 at their first trip to High School Nationals.
The MBA boys traveled to Philadelphia this past weekend to compete against 106 High Schools throughout the country. We played in division 7 against programs from Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware and New York. The MBA boys won their first two matches 7-0 and 5-2 earning them an appearance in the semi-finals.
In our Quarterfinal match, Charlie Warner kicked us off with a tight 3-game match. Duncan Jackson and Lyon Playfair added our next two points winning in 3 and 4 respectively. Loring Helfrich clinched the match. He was 2-0 up and his opponent came out strong to equal the match at 2-2. The fifth went back and forth. Loring held his nerve and clinched the match in a 5-game thriller. Dan McLaren added our 5th point securing our birth into the Semifinal.
In the semifinal and 3rd place match, our boys were outmatched competing against programs with 8+ years experience. However, they fought hard and found themselves in some opportunities to win some games. They represented themselves and the school well. In addition, they gained invaluable experience and motivation to improve their individual games.
We are returning all of our starters next year and are looking forward to building off our experiences from the first year!
