John Burch Captures Second Place at State - MBA finish Third
Michael Kelly
The MBA golf team finished third in the state golf championship at Old Fort golf course in Murfreesboro this past Tuesday and Wednesday - its best finish in 9 years. In a highly competitive field, the team shot 298 on the first day which was good enough for third place, two strokes behind MUS and 12 stokes behind Baylor. On the second day, MBA's team total of 305 consolidated third place but we could not match the firepower of the aforementioned teams. Playing some superb golf and reaping the rewards was John Burch who capped four years of great service to the MBA team by shooting a two-round total of 141, a 3-under par total that saw him take second place in individual honors. Both John Burch and Daniel Leader earned all-state honors by finishing in the top ten. Rob Broadhurst made his usual solid contribution on the first day but Lady Luck deserted him on day two. Tyler LeRoy, in his first state championship shot a pair of Chuck Berrys (two 78s), and his skill and leadership will be valuable next year. It has been a privilege and a lot of fun to have been around John, Rob, Daniel and Jimmy these past five years - they have helped develop this program and set the bar higher for next year.
