The MBA 8th Grade Football team closed their 2007 season in top form with a 41-14 shellacking of David Lipscomb in the Big Red Bowl Tuesday. The action started early as the Microbes recovered Ryland Close's onside kick to open the game. The Lipscomb defense could not stop the Big Red rushing attack, as Caleb Counce ran in two touchdowns, while Augie Houghton, Close, and Charlie Steere all added TD runs of their own. Bryan Oslin also scored on the opening kickoff of the second half as the kickoff return team parted the sea for him. Defensively, linebacker James Kay played relentlessly and seemed to be all over the field. Strong performances also came from Alex Hagar and Dobbs Richards on the defensive line, Alex Kohls and Jamie Bradshaw at defensive end, and Adam Hobbs, Jason Katseff, and Eric Owings in the secondary. Kicker Will Sullivan had another outstanding performance with kickoffs, as well as knocking in five extra points. This was truly a team effort, as all members of the team played significant minutes and were rewarded for all their hard work from practice this year. Coaches McMurray, Ardisson, McMahan, Bryant, and Sitton are so proud of the attitude, determination, persistance, and camaraderie of this 8th grade group, and the future of MBA football will remain bright as these boys continue to the next level.
