Big Red Dominates Dickson

Marc Ardisson
After a tough loss last week to St. Henry, the hard work in practice paid off in a big way when the Big Red faced Dickson Middle at Tommy Owen Stadium.  MBA put points on the board quickly, scoring less than two minutes into the game on a 35 yard TD run by Carson Shaw.  After kicking off to Dickson, MBA was soon back on offense after a great interception by Duncan Smith.  Backed up in their own territory and facing a third and long situation, quarterback Tucker Voges connected with Colton Black for a 75 yard TD pass.  On the following kickoff, the Dickson returner appeared to have made the right moves to score, but Sam Weien made an incredible TD saving tackle to keep the shutout going.  With :12 remaining in the first quarter, Ben Barton pressured the Dickson quarterback into making a bad pass that was intercepted by Jonah Rapphun and returned 60 yards for a TD.  The next kickoff to Dickson again seemed to be headed all the way back for a TD, but Chris Burrus was not going to allow that to happen, making another fantastic TD saving tackle.  In the second quarter, with Dickson in the red zone, Carson Shaw picked off the quarterback's pass and brought it back 28 yards to give the Big Red great field position.  A few plays later, Duncan Smith ran the ball 42 yards to put MBA up 30-0 at the half.  MBA continued to dominate the game in the second half, with two fumble recoveries by Ben Barton and one by Russell Carpenter.  Tucker Voges completed his second TD pass of the game, a 22 yard strike to Duncan Smith in the third quarter.  Tyler Forcum put the exclamation point on the game with a tough 8 yard run in the final minutes of the game to make the final score 46-16.  The Big Red 7th grade team will play Harding Academy next Tuesday at USN's River Campus.
