MBA hockey recognized it's 7 seniors this evening in a pre-game event. Players and their parents were announced and thanked for their contributions to the MBA community and the hockey program.
Nick Boney – son of Mr. Steve and Mrs. Julie Boney, has played on the varsity hockey team since his freshman year and was voted captain this year. Outside of hockey, Nick is the editor-in-chief of the school yearbook) and is also involved in the Creative Writing Club. During his sophomore year, he received a Wilson English Grant to study at Cornell Summer College. Last year, Nick was chosen to attend Eton College on a Wilson Exchange Grant.
Jack Coyle – son of Mr. Frank and Mrs. Laura Coyle, has been a hockey goalie since an early age playing on both house and travel teams in Nashville. Jack is a 4-year letterman for Big Red, serving as starting goalie for the past three years. Among goalies in GNASH last season, Jack had the most shutouts (7), most minutes played (882), most games played (21) and most wins (17), a season that MBA won the Henry Hine Cup Championship. Jack was voted our Most Valuable Defensive Player.
Cal Fisher – son of Mr. Bob and Mrs. Sue Fisher, has played for the hockey team for two years and was backup goal tender for the championship team last season. He is providing senior leadership for our JV club this season. He has also played varsity golf for four years at MBA and helped his team place first in the region last Fall.
Chase Mathews - son of Dr. Doug and Mrs. Debbie Mathews , has played MBA varsity hockey for four years and was voted offensive MVP his junior year. He has also played varsity golf for four years and helped his team place first in the region. He currently is a member of the Big Red club and helps lead the Pep Rallies. He received a Wilson Language grant to study in Bogota, Colombia last summer.
Sam Pinsly - son of Mr. Gary and Mrs. Sue Pinsly, has played MBA hockey for three years. He walked on in his sophomore year with no ice experience and was voted Most Improved that season, and Most Dedicated last year. Sam helped many JV players learn the game and has enjoyed being part of the team.
Kip Worthington - son of Dr. Brad and Mrs. Teri Worthington, in addition to playing hockey for four years of his high school career, Kip also played varsity golf. In his free time, Kip plays the banjo, guitar, and mandolin. He will be attending Sewanee, The University of the South next fall.
Ben Yahnian - son of Dr. Paul and Mrs. Barb Yahnian, has played varsity hockey 4 years. He is an alternate captain this year. He has been elected by classmates to leadership positions including: class treasurer, service club secretary, French Club president, Head of Peer Tutors, and President of the Big Red Club. He spends extra time with the Model UN and Mock Trial teams. Ben has received 2 Wilson Foreign Language Grants and represented MBA at the Next Draft Summit in
Singapore. Ben was inducted into Totomoi Society recognized for his leadership in academics, athletics, service, and appreciation for the arts. Totomoi is the highest honor an MBA student can receive.

Game Summary:In a game marred by numerous dangerous hits (Jack Malone sustained a serious neck injury), MBA beat the hapless FRA club 3-1. Scoring for MBA were Ben Yahnian assisted by Nick Boney and Jake Evans; Kip Worthington assisted by Nick Ray and Boney. Nick Ray scored MBA's final goal on an empty net late in the game assisted by Worthington. Jack Coyle played solid in goal giving up only one while facing 17 shots. Roll Red!
