Additional Preseason skating opportunities:
Ford Ice Center Preseason Conditioning Skates
July 8, 2014
Ford Ice Center featuring two ice rinks, 2,000 square foot pro-shop, a ballet and yoga studio, off-ice conditioning rooms and a restaurant-style concession stand, in Antioch, TN, is putting the finishing touches on and is set to open this August. In the meantime, Ford Ice Center has partnered with Bridgestone Arena to offer preseason conditioning skates throughout July.
Each age specific session will be open to the first 26 skaters and 4 goalies. Participants must provide their own equipment and have played at least one year of House level hockey or higher. Full equipment required - bring your own jerseys (1 light, 1 dark).
These preseason conditioning skates will focus on proper skating technique, high intensity stick handling, proper angling drills, and a short scrimmage where players will be coached "at the bench" not "from the bench."
Registration ($40/person) includes 90-minutes of on-ice instruction and parking. Additionally, as a thank you for participating the Nashville Predators will provide each participant with a complimentary Preseason ticket offer in early August. Advanced registration is required to reserve your child's spot, but payment (cash or checks payable to Nashville Predators) will be collected at each session.
Skates will be led by Ford Ice Center Hockey Director Craig MacDonald, along with a host of guest instructors.
Pick 1 or attend all sessions ($40/session) for your child's specific age.
• High School (birth years 1996-1999) sessions: July 17, 20, 28
• Bantam and Up (birth years 1996-2001)sessions: July 18, 20
To reserve your child's spot simply complete the online registration form
If you need additional assistance, or for more information on Ford Ice Center Youth & Adult Programs or private ice rental contact Craig MacDonald at cmacdonald@nashvillepredators.com.
• Angela Walchuk offers Summer skating programs. For more information: www.angelawalchuk.com
• Bert Cording offers individual and group skating instruction programs. For more information: (615) 924-3395, or dogman0076@gmail.com
After summer events, transition to a Pre-Season Focus:
Finalize GNASH varsity and HYHL JV player, coach and team registrations.
Commitment to team rules referenced in Player Handbook.
Concussion base line testing.
Build endurance, stay healthy, no injuries.
Develop skills, learn “systems” for pressure, trap, power play and short handed.
Scrimmages, and Pre-season, Tune-up Tourney
Establish team identity, positions, lines, team rosters
Select team captains
Remain academically eligible (1MQ – September 12, 2014)
No academic probations, no demerits, no honor council, no disciplinary issues.
In-Season Focus:
Remain healthy, and eligible. No concussions.
No academic probations, no demerits, no honor council, no disciplinary issues.
Balance obligations of family, social, academics, and sports.
Phase in returning players from football, XC, golf, and crew.
All players practice, activate 16-20 for each game.
JV teams will play in the NYHL Midget House JV league (not associated with GNASH). JV A Team will be made up of 4th, 5th, 6th line varsity, plus others who need more playing time, and if their academic demands can handle it. JV B team will be made up primarily of players new to hockey, eligible 8th graders, plus others who need more playing time, and if their academic demands can handle it. JV focus is skills development (skating, stick handling, etc.)
I encourage 7th and 8th graders to play for their local house/ travel Peewee/Bantam teams, yet 8th graders are allowed with league and parent approval to play JV. Concern is balancing academic demands and “life” given playing for 2 teams.
Thank you for coming, and for your interest in MBA hockey! If you have any questions, please contact MBA Director of Hockey Operations and Coach - David Deutsch, email: david.deutsch@montgomerybell.edu.
Hockey schedule of events, season calendar and documents will be on Whipple Hill soon…..we just rolled to 2014-2015.
