MBA 8th Grade Falls Just Short in a Classic to Knoxville Fulton
Coach McMurray
The MBA 8th Grade Football Team narrowly lost in an instant classic to Knoxville Fulton 30-26 last Saturday. Touchdown runs from Charlie Buffkin and Sam Dugan gave the Big Red a first half lead, and the defense held the high octane Falcon attack under wraps early on. In the 2nd half, Fulton hit their stride, with a remarkable stretch of long completions to pull ahead in the 4th quarter. Quarterback Cole Turner then led a gutsy scoring drive, connecting on two key passes. The first was to tight end Jackson Hannah, and the second was batted off the hands of Ross Johnson to an alert and heady Luke Bernatavitz, giving the Big Red the lead with two minutes to go. Fulton answered with a tremendous drive of their own, scoring with 30 seconds left on a perfect pass into tight coverage. The clock ran out on the Big Red at Fulton’s 20 yard line, ending the attempt at a final game-winning score. In very hot conditions, against a tough and skilled opponent, the Microbes showed toughness, grit, and determination despite falling short on the scoreboard. Next up comes a trip to Mt. Juliet Middle School to face the Bears on Thursday evening.
