Volpone by Ben Jonson. A merciless satire of greed and lust with allusions to Aesop’s Fables, this play remains the most-performed play by Shakespeare’s contemporary. The King's Men, the company that produced Shakespeare’s early plays and in which he himself acted, staged the first performance of Volpone. Malcolm Morrison directs Jonson’s masterpiece with original music that spotlights a society governed by deceit and subterfuge.
