Two Singles Players and One Doubles Team Qualify for State from MBA

Two singles players from MBA (George Harwell and Matthew Bulow) and two doubles teams (John Morphett/Sims Lance and Cole Thornton/Hugh Graham) competed in the East/Middle Region Tennis Tournament at GPS on Friday and Saturday. George won the region to earn the 1 seed in the state tournament. Matthew won his quarterfinal match, lost his semifinal match and qualified for the state tournament as a 4 seed. John and Sims played well but lost a tough third set matchbreaker in the back draw semifinal and thus did not qualify for the state tournament. MBA ended the day on a high note, however, as Hugh and Cole avenged the other MBA doubles team's loss by defeating the same Father Ryan team in a third set matchbreaker in the back draw finals to earn the final spot, the 5 seed, in the state tournament. The state tournament will be played on Thursday and Friday after the team semifinals and championship are played on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, TN the week of May 23-27.
