7th Grade Football Beats BGA

The 7th Grade Silver Platoon beat BGA 20-6 on Tuesday (9/11). Wearing American Flags on the back of their helmets to commemorate the 6th Anniversary of the terrorists attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C. (Thank you Melinda Higgins.), the Big Red played very well against a well-coached, determined BGA team.

MBA opened the scoring with a Dylan Hall touchdown pass to Will Campbell, but was unsuccessful in the 2-point conversion. The defense stymied BGA's offense with Mattison Asher consistently crushing the center, which resulted in two quarterback sacks by both John Bachman and Clint Smith. Then, just before halftime, Dylan Hall threw a touchdown pass to Wilson Johnson and Cade Hooper scored on an option run for the 2-point conversion to give MBA a 14-0 lead.

During the second half, MBA's defense continued to batter BGA's offense; as exemplified by fumble recoveries by both Jonathan Siktberg and Wilson Johnson. Although BGA attempted to mount a comeback with a late touchdown, the 2-point conversion failed and MBA maintained a 14-6 lead. Then, with time running out and BGA driving down the field, Lucas Littlejohn deflected a pass that was intercepted by JT Braun giving MBA possession with 9 seconds left. On the final play of the game, Paul Moore came in at quarterback and handed the ball off to Jetarii Donald who scampered 50 yards for a touchdown to secure a 20-6 victory.

Well done boys! The team is developing a strong chemistry that will serve it well during rest of the season. Come support the Maroon Platoon in what is guaranteed to be a tough game against St. Edwards on Thursday (9/13) at 4:30pm on Andrew's Field (behind Tommy Owen Stadium).
