7th Grade Football Beats BA (and Ensworth in the same week)!
MBA's 7th Grade Football Team staged a gritty comeback to beat BA 26-22 on Thursday (10/4). In a game where all 69 of the boys played almost an entire quarter each, the Big Red showed great determination and character by erasing BA's 10 point lead and scoring 14 unanswered points during the last 10 minutes of the game.
The Big Red offense was very productive throughout the game. During the first half, JT Donald had two carries for over 50 yards to set up a Dylan Hall touchdown pass to Andrew Einstman (failed 2-point conversion). Then, Cade Hooper threw a touchdown pass to Tom "Tree" Kaiser (failed 2-point conversion). The offense continued to produce during the second half when Dylan Hall threw a touchdown pass to Wilson Johnson (failed 2-point conversion) and John Bachman ran for a touchdown with Dylan Hall throwing to Will Campbell for the 2-point conversion. However, the two offensive highlights of the day were the fact that the offense went on "hut 2" TWICE and the acrobatic catch by Will Campbell where he jumped for a high pass along the sideline and came down with both feet in bounds for the completion -- amazing!
The Big Red defense was very stingy, and truly shut down the BA offense during the second half. Both Chris Duffey and Lucas Littlejohn helped the defense with excellent kick-offs that provided BA with poor field position. The fierce defensive play was exemplified by multiple team tackles for a loss and Todd Baker and Franklin Garstin's forced fumble, with the recovery by John Bachman.
Overall, it was a great team effort!
The 7th Grade season ends on Tuesday (10/9) when the team plays David Lipscomb in the Big Red Bowl in Tommy Owen Stadium at 4:00pm.
