MBA rallies to defeat Maplewood
After trailing 28-17 with 5:00 minutes left in the game the Big Red mounted one of the best comebacks in school history to post a 31-28 victory over an outstanding Maplewood team. Maplewood started fast as the Panthers took the opening drive 70 yards to take a 7-0 lead. After trading scores throughout the first half the two teams headed into intermission locked at 14-14.
MBA took the opening drive of the second half and converted on an Andrew Fletcher fieldgoal. The 17-14 lead did not last long and Maplewood's outstanding sophomore running back scored twice putting the panthers up 28-17 deep into the 4th quarter. After a failed fourth down attempt the MBA defense held strong as Maplewood looked to run out the clock with 5 minutes left in the game. The Big Red made a great stand and allowed the offense to take the field to cut into the lead. A De'Ante Hughes touchdown set the stage for a perfectly executed onside kick recovered by William Tanner. Five plays later Fitz Lassing punched in the go ahead TD to secure the Big Red win. Joe Riegle and Connor Caldwell made outstanding plays during the last minute to preserve the win. MBA takes on Ensworth this Friday at 7:00pm at MBA. Roll Red.
