On a bizarre homecoming night, MBA outlasted Father Ryan through a two hour weather delay to capture a dramatic 21-17 victory. The Irish special teams struck first by blocking the first Big Red punt of the night and returning it for a touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead. MBA was able to answer with a touchdown drive of their own that was capped by a 4 yard touchdown run by tailback Ty Chandler. Before the game was halted, the Big Red was able to produce another touchdown drive that was punctuated by a short touchdown run by quarterback Cole Euverard.
Almost immediately following the MBA touchdown, the game was halted due to lightning with about 6 minutes left in the first half. The Irish handled the two hour game delay well and were able to add a field goal before the end of the first half. Ryan received the opening kickoff of the second half and was able to put together a long drive that resulted in a touchdown and a 17-14 lead. MBA found their resolve in the fourth quarter as the offense put a 95 yard drive together that culminated in a nifty touchdown run by senior Mike Lacey. The defense capped the game by stopping a last minute effort by the Irish that preserved the 21-17 victory for MBA.
This improves the record of the Big Red to 6-2 (2-2 in region play) as the enter their off week. MBA will take the field again on October 24th against Pope John Pall II in Tommy Owen Stadium.
