MBA Earns Birth in State Final

Team 116 is advancing to the TSSAA Division II - AA State Final! By earning a hard fought 31-29 home victory over Baylor on Friday night, MBA will advance to the state championship game to face Ensworth High School on Thursday December 4th at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.

The Raiders from Baylor proved to be a tough task for the Big Red as they capitalized on two offensive turnovers to take a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. Baylor forced a punt on the ensuing drive and drove the ball into MBA territory looking to increase their lead. The Big Red defense showed great resolve as they forced stopped the Raiders on a 4th and 2 play that gave MBA a jolt of energy. The offense got going on the next drive as tailback Ty Chandler was able to score on a 24 yard run. After Baylor was forced to punt again, MBA drove the length of the field in under a minute to tack on a crucial field goal by senior Davis Luster on the last play of the half to cut the Baylor lead  to 14-10 at halftime.

The third quarter was all MBA as the Big Red drove the first possession of the second half and took their first lead of the night behind another Chandler touchdown run. The defense forced a Baylor turnover on their first play of the second half and MBA was able to capitalize with a short 3 yard touchdown pass to tight end Parker Bryan from senior quarterback Cole Euverard to take a 24-14 lead.  

The fourth quarter began with a 16 play drive that took 6 minutes of the clock and culminated in a 13 yard touchdown run from Euverard that increased MBA's lead to 31-14. Baylor, led by senior quarterback Nick Tiano, showed no quit as they executed a hurry up passing attack that led to two scores but left only a few seconds on the clock. Senior Parks Ball was able to recover the last onside kick to punch the Big Red's ticket to Cookeville!
