MBA will host renowned French graffiti artist Blek Le Rat as its artist in residence next week on campus. Blek will be on campus November 4-11 to work with students and install five murals on campus.
Based in Paris, BlekLeRat is widely recognized as a pioneer in the graffiti-art and guerrilla art movements, inspiring multiple artists in the genre, including the anonymous, England-based Banksy. His works are primarily life-sized murals of individuals which he designs to be “little surprises to make people happy.”
Le Rat's visit will coincide with the MBA Art Show. The 2018 MBA Art Show is an annual event featuring up to 60 professional artists exhibiting and offering works for purchase at the show. Proceeds from the Art Show put on by the MBA Mother’s Club benefit the school’s Fine Arts Department. Featured artist, BlekLeRat, will arrive at MBA several days prior to the Art Show to create a series of original murals on campus with the assistance of students. His work will culminate in a final Mural Painting at the Opening Night Reception on Thursday, November 8 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Davis Building.
