MBA LACROSSE ADVANCES TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

MBA Lacrosse will play for the program’s eighth state championship title on Friday when the Big Red face rival McCallie from Chattanooga at Nolensville High School.

Led by head coach Russell McWhirter (’02)—who won a state championship in his first year guiding the program in 2023—MBA defeated MUS on Friday night in front of a lively crowd at Frank Andrews Field. Despite having an earlier postseason game canceled due to a forfeit by the opponent and concerns of rust after the extended rest, the Big Red jumped out to a fast 6-0 lead and never looked back, finishing with a 15-4 win.

Junior Cade Sturdivant scored four goals, including the 100th of his already decorated career, while fellow attackman James Roberts recorded three assists. On the defensive end, Eli Stark was strong in the cage, saving 11 of the 15 shots he faced. William Wade, JT Lane, and Tommy Bartholomew combined to force 10 turnovers from the Owls.

MBA placed an impressive ten individuals on the All-Region team: Eli Stark, William Wade, JT Lane, Tommy Bartholomew, Nik Dave, Will Woodward, Jackson McGuffin, Elias Franks, Cade Sturdivant, and James Roberts. Throughout the season, the Big Red have benefited from contributions across the roster, with team depth emerging as one of their key strengths.

Tickets for Friday’s game, which begins at 4:30 p.m., are available in advance via GoFan.
