In a closely contested HVAC matchup, the JS Tennis team dropped their first of two matchups this season with Ensworth: 1-4. Though Bruce Li got the Big Red on the board early in the afternoon with his high energy dismantling of a quality opponent, the remaining four HVAC matches were close contests that could have gone either way. Unfortunately for the JS Tennis lads, not even Chris Topping’s birthday celebrations could bring us fortune on a few key points that might have swung the match in our favor.
Meanwhile in exhibition play, the lads had the opposite fortunes as they downed opponent after opponent to sweep the Tigers: 6-0. The match of the day must have been Merritt MacGaw and Adrian Hufford who fended off multiple match points to win 9-8 (12-10). Hats off for a truly persevering performance! Thank you to the Stansell Family for providing snacks and drinks.
Next up: Several members of the JS Tennis team will be cheering on Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Coco Gauff, and even Coach Scholer’s favorite Serbian tennis star, Novak Djokovic, this weekend at the US Open. The tennis lads return to the courts next Thursday to host Brentwood Academy.
