MBA LACROSSE CAPTURES STATE TITLE WITH COMMANDING WIN OVER MCCALLIE

MBA Lacrosse won its eighth state championship - and first of the newly-sanctioned TSSAA era - by defeating McCallie 13-8 on Friday. After giving up the first goal, the Big Red went on to score four straight in the opening quarter to take the lead. From there, they maintained the advantage the rest of the way, leading by as many as eight in the final few minutes of the championship contest.

Junior Cade Sturdivant scored four goals to lead the way while fellow third-year James Roberts added a trio of his own. It was Roberts who scored first for the Big Red in both the first and second halves, helping set the tone on an offense that lit up the scoreboard of host Nolensville High School. Meanwhile, defensively, the stifling unit spearheaded by junior William Wade kept the Blue Tornado in check.

Although individual highlights stood out, the true story of this championship lies in the depth of the 2025 roster and the total team effort that allowed MBA to control the game. It’s a second championship in three years under the direction of coach Russell McWhirter and a fourth in the last seven seasons for the program as a whole. The Big Red finished the season 17-2 overall having beaten some of the top teams across the Southeast (wins over teams from Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee) and redeeming themselves for one of the regular season losses in the postseason.

Spring sports wrap up this week as the Big Red soccer, tennis and track teams take to Murfreesboro for Spring Fling. You can keep up with all the latest by following our social media pages (Instagram / X) and downloading the MBA Athletics App!
