The first quarter set the tone for the game, as MBA was able to establish its running game offensively and the defense stifled Baylor’s offense. The biggest play of the game occurred with just over ten minutes remaining in the first half. Baylor attempted to punt, when Michael Swett charged through Baylor’s front line and bowled over another Red Raider as he blocked the kick. Junior Clayton Foster scooped up the loose ball and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. Swett’s play was extremely similar to his crucial blocked kick against Brentwood Academy.
MBA’s defense quickly forced Baylor to punt, and the Big Red Offense took over at the 30-yard-line. After four consecutive Andy Snyder runs moved the football across midfield, MBA David Howe completed a third down pass to Charlie Plageman to continue the drive. A 24-yard completion to Snyder set up the one-yard touchdown run to make the lead 14-0.
MBA dominated the second half. They held the ball for more than 15 of the 24 minutes. Baylor managed just 45 yards on 20 plays, while the Big Red kept the ball on the ground and controlled the clock.
Snyder led the offense with 126 yards on 23 carries. He was aided by McGavock Johnson, who carried the ball nine times for 24 yards. Howe completed ten of his 19 pass attempts, completing four passes to Snyder, three to Will Hackett, and one each to Plageman, Drew Carney, and Reed Blackwell. On defense, Ben Daniel had ten tackles, including three and a half sacks. Michael Swett added two sacks. Andrew Warfield had five tackles and recovered a fumble, while Gray Palmer had five tackles and an interception. Chris Geer, Ben Batholomew, and Mitchell Williams each had five tackles. Clayton Foster converted both extra points, and freshman Houston Oldham punted the ball five times for a 35 yard average.
