MBA Crew Earns Silver & Bronze

The morning started off cold and rainy and with a 4 hour delay.  The clouds remained but the rain stopped and races resumed.  Overall is was a strong showing for the Big Red at thier first race of the season at the John Hunter Regatta.  Three boats competed at the regatta: a Varsity 4+, a Novice 8+ and JV 4+.  
 
The Varsity 4+ started the day by racing a in a heat with the top 2 positions continuing to the final .  MBA was off the start in the lead and held strong at the top of the field for the first 1000 meters.  East Tennessee edged out in front and second place became a head to head battle between MBA and Evans Rowing Club racing down to the last stroke, bow ball to bow ball and ending with the MBA boat being edged out of the grand final by two tenths of a second. 
 
The Novice 8+ hit the water next with three brand new spring novices taking to the water.  Again, MBA was first out of the starting blocks and maintained a strong hold for the first 500 meters eventually the young crew dropped to 3rd place earning a Bronze medal.   In addition, the only novice boat to compete this weekend, finished 3 and 5 boat lengths ahead of 4th and 5th places.

Last to row for the Big Red today was the Junior Varisty 4+.  The raced hard and held at the top of the pack for the entire race, placing second and earning a silver medal.
 
The Varisy 4+ will hit the course again in Gainesville, Sunday, competing in the Lanier Sprints Regatta.  Stay tuned. Row Red Row!!!
