The Junior School A Soccer Squad traveled to CPA today to play a headliner game against the rival Lions of CPA under the lights.
Fortune was on our side to begin the game as a cross (or was it a shot?) from Luke Sullivan took a wild deflection to beat an acrobatic opposing goalkeeper. After some intense pressure from the Lion front line and midfield, the teams traded possession and chances until Miller Ruehling framed the goal by following up a rebound to put the Big Red ahead 2-0. Just before the half, the Reds piled on the pressure with a clean finish from Powell Byram after a string of quality passes in the attacking third.
In the second half, the Reds began to control the rhythm of the game even more, with trusting possession beginning with the solid back line of Quinn Sberna, Larson McGrane, Joah Dowell, James Jalovic, and James Kyle. Fantastic midfield displays by Hank Roper, Jameson Meriwether, Jess Judy, and Drake Gambill consistently transitioned the ball cleanly to attacking areas where Jude Andrews and Scott Martin assisted Luke Sullivan, Powell Byram, and Levi O'Roarke in adding three more goals to finish the game.
The Big Red futbol-ers are showing promise as their chemistry continues to build in this third week of the season. Next, we host USN on Wednesday at home at 4pm.
