Steamroll Red: JS Tennis 'No Mercy' Squad cannot be stopped

Jian Farhoumand
The JS Tennis No Mercy Squad™ continued its unrelenting steamroll of destruction today with a 9-0 victory at home over a brave and brawny USN team whose members all fought valiantly to the end.

Our number one singles seed, Gaurish 'Destroyer of Strings' Sahoo, played the tightest match of the day against a talented and courageous lad reportedly ranked number two in the state. It went down to the wire at 7-6 when Gaurish finally managed to break his opponent's serve and close out this thriller at 8-6.

Other notable performances included our number two seed, Robert 'I Robbed You' Hobart, whose bruising 8-0 victory was also a staggering sight to behold with booming serves and sublime backhands down the line. Our number three, Shaun 'Silent but Deadly' Xu, continued in a similar vein with an 8-2 match of firm forehands and razor-sharp topspin backhands. Eli 'Lasersight' Loudenslager wrought further destruction with his warlike first-serve whoppers to win his match, 8-1.

Our top doubles pair, Henry 'How's That' Anderson and Eli 'Elike it' Kraemer, teamed up to fight a furious battle that was neck and neck for much of the way until our boys finally managed to pull ahead to close out at a convincing 8-5.

Alp 'Tweener' Weitkamp and Walker 'Dive in' Dovan paired up for the next clash, to put on a dazzling display of trickshots and loopy lobs to win theirs in decided fashion at 8-1.

Next up, Cole 'Stonecole' Anderson and  Rudi 'Yes Way' Wei, fought a slashing swordfight of a seventh-grade clash, winning out at 6-4. Jude 'Judeboy' Bonvissuto and Armaan 'Armaageddon' Singhvi put on another seventh-grade smasher of a match and took theirs 6-4, too.

Where these lads can go next is anyone's guess. Even if their season ended now, on a hat-trick of three consecutive clean sweeps - a veritable tricolon of triumph - they would have done enough to be remembered. These boys obviously really enjoy competing, but it's also just a joy to see them bonding with each other and to watch their camaraderie grow.

Thanks, too, to Mrs. Jessica Anderson for generously providing copious amounts of match teas and treats for both teams today.

Well done to the boys, yet again, and major congratulations to Coach Bromfield on putting together a top-class team who fight for every point and push each other further and beyond each day.

Until next time...

Steamroll Red.
