National Tournament Summary (Univ. of Wisconsin @ Madison – 20 May 2011)
For the second time in a row, and the third in five years, the MBA Science Olympiad team headed off to the 27th National Science Olympiad tournament to compete against 59 of the top teams (out of about 6200 this year) in the nation. Leaving right after the exams on May 19th, the Big Red team took a two-day trek to the land of cheese and brats. Following the strong leadership from our Seniors; Carter Callaway, Jack Hallemann, and Walton Macey, the Big Red had another successful outing placing 37th overall with 791 points. This time around we had 7 top-25 events (Astronomy, Chemistry, Disease Detectives, Mouse-trap Vehicle, Protein Modeling, Technical Problem Solving, and Robot Arm). Best of all, we had two top-ten performances: 7th Place in Chemistry (Carter Callaway and Walton Macey) and 5th Place in Technical Problem Solving (Joe Scherrer and Kartik Sastry)!
Right along with our Seniors, the other members of the team deserve applause for their efforts and achievements all season long. These boys are: (Jrs.) David Arteaga, Joe Scherrer, Zach Chen, Karthik Sastry, Chris Habermann, Weston Bell, (Soph.) Adam Bowman, Hamilton Millwee, Colin Caldwell, Hunter Tidwell and Tom Bu, and (Fresh.)
