Microbe Soccer A Wins Championship

Dick Klausner
The MBA microbe soccer team won its eighth consecutive HVAC championship by beating CPA 2-1. The MBA squad came into the game with eight wins and one tie(8-0-1) after winning their semifinal game against USN 1-0. But the CPA team was a highly skilled and athletic team, and MBA knew it had better be ready to compete after watching CPA crush BA 3-0 in their semifinal game. The back four of Christian Williams, William Porter, Alden Ferguson, and Will Warren did an outstanding job through regulation play which ended 1-1 when CPA equalized when they scored with three minutes to go to force overtime. Ellis Moore put CPA under constant pressure with his aggressive play up top. One of the real stars for the Big Red was seventh grader Collin Ragsdale whom the coaches selected to man-mark CPA's best player for the entire game. He never let up, and his effort paid off as MBA controlled the midfield for much of the game. Brodie Poe and Wes Richardson put endless pressure on the attack on the outside as the three overtimes went on, and Will Emerson and Chase Meluch continued to be the powerhouse leaders in the central midfield. After three overtime periods, the game remained tied, and the teams prepared for penalty kicks, one of the most pressure packed ways to find the champion. Our outstanding goalie, Cole Cross, who had been tremendous the entire game, stood ready for the challenge. After Chase and Will both made their shots, Cole saved two of CPA's penalty shots with diving saves. Daniel Bishop then made his penalty shot, as did the next two CPA stars. It came down to Christian Williams who could win it for the Big Red if he scored on CPA's strong keeper. Christian came through, burying the shot and the Microbes had won another championship
