The first-ever MBA Junior Classical League chapter took part Friday, April 13, in the Tennessee Junior Classical League State Convention in Murfreesboro. The five-man team of Furman Haynes, Michael Milam, Jake Simons, Kevin Wang, and Faris Wasim competed in academic contests and in the Advanced A level of Certamen (a two-team question-and-answer test much like College Bowl). Faculty sponsors Sarah Ellery and Edward Gaffney accompanied the students.
In addition to placing fifth in Certamen, in the Latin II Division Michael Milam placed 5th in Grammar and 5th in Vocabulary, while Faris Wasim placed 5th in Latin Literature. In the Latin 4 & 5 Division, Jake Simons placed 1st Latin Literature and won Best in Show for that achievement, 4th in Roman History, 3rd in Vocabulary; Kevin Wang placed 4th in Derivatives, 3rd in Mythology, 3rd in Reading Comprehension, and 2nd in Vocabulary.
Jake Simons also ran successfully to become the Tennessee Junior Classical League President for the 2012-2013 school year.
