Garden update for the months of September/October:
Herbs are planted and doing well. Camomile, basil, dill, oregano, thyme and sage are all taking hold in the round bed, having germinated in the Earth Science lab. Seedlings were put out on September 19th.
The MBA Garden Club elected officers in September! Officers are: J. Carlton Smith - President; German Martinez - Vice President; Jake Macey - Secretary; Will Singer - Treasurer; Beautification - Sam Turner. Several members of the club visited the Hands On Nashville Urban Garden during the weekend of October 5-7 to study the composters there. Look for our composters to be built adjacent to the campus garden before the end of October. Regular club meetings were held on 8/28, 9/18, 9/19, 10/2 and 10/4. We hope to begin posting minutes of the meetings to the Gardening Group on the Garden Page.
Summer crops of tomatillos, tomatoes and peppers are winding down and fall planting is in the works. Summer crops were featured in a fresh tomatillo salad served at the Headmasters Dinner and in a stunning fresh peppers, tomatoes and pasta offering done by Chef Steve and his staff for lunch on 10/9. Clearing of the beds for the fall transition was happily effected by some of the 8th grade gardeners just before Fall Break. Stay tuned for pictures and a list of fall plantings after we return from break!
