Latin Students Excel in State Competition

MBA Latin students Tarun Mallipeddi, Michael Milam, Will Peters, Jake Simons, Cole Thornton, John Triplett, and Kevin Wang attended the Tennessee Junior Classical League Convention in Murfreesboro on March 22 and 23, along with 550 other Latin students from across the state. Jake Simons, concluding his term as State President, presided over the opening and closing events of the program. Schools are placed in divisions based on their membership and number of delegates to the convention. In academic testing, all our students placed well, including first-place finishes by Michael Milam in Intermediate Derivatives and Intermediate Vocabulary, by Jake Simons in Advanced Latin Literature, and by Kevin Wang in Advanced Derivatives, Advanced Mythology, and Advanced Vocabulary. In Certamen (a team quiz event which ignores division levels so that all teams compete against each other), the Advanced Team of Tarun Mallipeddi, Michael Milam, Jake Simons, and Kevin Wang won the Level A (highest) competition. Finally, MBA won first place among Division A Sweepstakes Awards for its overall score total.
