The oarsmen of the first varsity eight hit the road for the Cincinnati High School Inviation on Harsha Lake in Ohio this weekend. Many fast crews were present including several midwestern club teams. MBA and McCallie were the only Tennessee crews in attendance as well as the only scholastic programs present.
The varsity eight raced in the first heat of the day and posted a time of 6:42.6, finishing third in their heat. Top two from each heat progressed to the finals. There were three heats with 12 total varsity eight crews racing for finals.
In state rival, McCallie, also finished third in their heat with at time 6:49.8. This is the first time in program history the varsity eight has posted a faster time than McCallie. The crew is eager to meet them face to face at the upcoming Dogwood State Championship in Oak Ridge, TN on April 26th.
This weekend was a great learning experience for the young program and the varsity eight is determined to keep unlocking speed this season.
