MBA/HH Players to Perform Animal Farm

October 25 and November 2 - 4
Animal Farm by George Orwell: A parable about totalitarianism, this play gave us the immortal phrase: “Some are more equal than others.” When the animals plan to run the farm themselves, the pigs take over as leaders because they are the cleverest, but their character is not equal to their intelligence. Dr. Cal Fuller directs Orwell’s timely masterpiece. Performance times: Wednesday (10/25 – Final Dress/Send-off to Competition) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday (11/2 and 11/3) at 6:30 p.m.Saturday (11/4) at 7 p.m.

From Director Cal Fuller: I've wanted to direct Animal Farm for years, ever since I came to MBA 20 years ago. It was on the original list that I gave Mr.Gioia when I interviewed to teach theater at MBA. I had enjoyed the story when I was a student at Baylor in the 1970s. Currently, George Orwell's popularity is on the rise. He's surged to the top on the best seller list again because in his fable the animals show us so much about our human desire for equality but also for power and greed. It's as timely now as when he first wrote it in the 1940s. I’m honored to have this current opportunity with such a talented and dedicated cast and crew. Very special thanks to Jeffrey Fracé, our 2017 MBA Artist-in-Residence, for guiding us early in the process as we explored how to move together and individually. “Good prose is like a window pane,” according to Orwell, and we hope our staging offers a clear views of past, present and future truths of this cautionary tale.
